What is truth?
Well there is absolute truth and relative truth. Absolute truth is the one truth however relative truth is always relative to something else. For example that which is good is relative to bad.
Is the truth making you happy?
How many of us see what we see and believe it to be the truth?
If you had a choice to believe something that is the truth which makes you unhappy or believe something that is made up and makes you happy, which one would you choose?
Happiness is a by product of us choosing beliefs which serve us in making us happy. It really is the land of make believe….
Is what you are believing in your life creating happiness, peace and joy in your life?
Many different events, things, situations happen outside of us in which we have no control over them.
We cannot control if a person likes us or not.
We cannot control the weather… if it is going to be sunny one day or raining the next.
We cannot control if somebody chooses to get angry with us or not.
However the great news is that we do have control over the response we choose to have in relation to the circumstance. For example if our friend chooses to get angry and frustrated with us because of something we have done or said to them, we can choose to react with anger and unhappiness to them or we can take a much more empowering place and choose to believe that what is happening is good and isn’t it great that they are authentic with us. We can actively choose to respond with happiness, peace and love in this situation.
The power is within each of us to respond in a different way to create something different in our lives.
Many of us are responding unconsciously (myself included), from old habit and thought patterns without any awareness or understanding that we could create something different in out lives. Many of us have been conditioned into people pleasing and approval seeking behaviour, which in turn limits us from really being our true selves and really loving ourselves.
Imagine believing that authenticity is the safest way to travel in the world. Wouldn’t it be amazing to move through the world in that way, just being fully authentic with everybody we meet.
What if we choose to be fully authentic with everybody we met…. regardless of what the consequences maybe?J
In my experience when I was feeling very anxious about something or a situation, when I choose to fully embrace and share how I was feeling, the interesting thing was that the anxious feeling changed. In my life I have found that some people have moved away or out of my life and others have moved closer to me as a result of being authentic.
Being authentic to everybody you meet, really is the most loving thing that you could do for yourself. It is only when we are not authentic and speaking the truth about who we are and what we are feeling, that we experience anxiety, nervousness, fear etc.
In my experience I have found that when I expressed the truth about myself to another person, that it empowered and allowed them to express their truth freely and without any judgement if they choose to. The fact that they could see, hear and feel that I was completely loving to myself and gave myself the permission to speak the truth, it enabled them to do it as well.
I have seen amazing transformations within the person in front of me when I choose to speak the truth and be fully authentic with them. Truth allows love to happen. When there is love, there is no judgement of what you are experiencing emotionally or mentally. It really is the greatest gift you could give to another.
When we are authentic, we are essentially trusting the essence of who we are. We are trusting what we are feeling whether that is so called “good” or so called “bad”. It is not about labeling, defining, or judging the experience we are having. It is about us loving ourselves as we are, warts and all.
The first step in the whole truth telling journey is speaking the truth and being fully authentic with ourselves and from there we are in a place to move and tell the truth to another. It really doesn’t matter what the other person thinks, says or responds, because essentially we are doing it a way to show more love to ourselves…..
As always I would love to hear any feedback or comments you may have,
Namaste,
TW

A great reminder that living in Truth is our personal responsibility — down to being honest about choosing beliefs that create happiness.

You are quite right: the power of choice is held in each and every reaction. Perhaps the greatest work of art is that of a disciplined, loving character, where each nuance of expression is carefully measured. A great post. Thank you. James.

Sometimes the truth hurts more than the lie. But the pain is temporary, and a lie seems forever to me. I’m doing my best to be truthful at all times, and am dealing with someone who has repeated lied and cheated on me. At the end of the day, when you are truthful you can live with yourself. As you say, it’s so much easier being authentic and you shift to a higher plane.

*
I
This is the exact point I was trying to make before. Feelings and emotions are impermanent and change if we do not engage them. I do not believe the sharing is necessary but not harmful to experience this.
Try noticing or go to a situation where you feel uncomfortable. Without cognitively engaging this feeling focus on your breath. Feel the sensations unpleasant brings to your inner world. It is only one of our body mechanisms. All feelings have the same traits of impermanence.
Do we not all have every emotion and express them sometime in life. then why do we get so Embarassed or hide certain emotions bringing other emotions as shame and guilt into play.
I dropped a plate at Starbucks the other day. my first reaction was to be Embarassed, turning red, anxious and my self talk would be clumsy fool.
Now I knew that everyone in Starbucks had been Embarassed so I felt connected to everyone a d I knew I shared this with all of them. Embarassed changed and I was just present.
You have a very inspirational blog and a strong following, I am humbled you have joined my blog with your insight. A blessing I believe. You have found so of the secrets of the mind.

Good stuff, I learned about absolute truth and relative truth from Vipassana meditation, as taught by my teacher Goenka.
One of many teachers I respect, I love most forms of meditation.

So Truth Warrior, may I ask your opinion on why meditation is in decline in the USA. Young people are not buying in to Buddhism of say like the sixties and seventies?
It is presented in such an abstract, far off decades achievement of awakening or enlightenment. Not many answer this call but why is it one of the only outlets for community practice.
It seems to me the mechanism of emptying the mind with focus on the breath can have much quicker results than presently available.
meditation to me is my personal journey to discover the inner world. It needs nothing around it. No bows, no chants, no ceremony or human leader. It is done inside the head anyway. Why do we need the influence or bias of another person to explore our inner world? Or say heal from childhood trauma. I went to a Zen center for five years and it was not geared for healing quickly. I was told it takes a decade to even know how to meditate.
The other question I have, what about all the other applications we are seeing now in therapy. We have therapists who never studied mindfulness in college but now are using it in sessions. They have gone from experts to dabbling with a skill they are not suited to handle efficiently.
Why is there not a hybrid for use in therapy to help heal some of the disorders, epidemic now as C-PTSD. To my point, I have developed a hybrid breathing track model for this purpose. This simple concrete continuum accomplished more than I ever imagined. It has two transitions that connect the inhale and exhale.
It makes following the breath much easier with fewer thoughts cabing in our emptiness. It also balances the breath and gives it symmetry. the mind, now has a specific, concrete model that entices the mind with it’s laser like focus.
This model can be used as serious practice and all this could be taught to kids growing up. The benefit of going beneath the ego and sitting quiet frees the mind and opens up the universe.
We need to reach more at a different level and opportunity and I think meditation would double here. An Opinion.
I have the breathing track model on my blog. if your interested I would be interested in your opinion of it. Thanks. Marty

I’ve nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Although this is relatively new for me, I love blogging and reading the blogs of others and the sharing of what are sometimes very personal thoughts. The type of communication that’s experienced in the blogosphere, and between so many people, makes me feel how truly connected we all are on a higher level. I also know that when someone begins blogging, it’s not to win awards but to share with others. And sometimes it’s therapy for our self. That being said, I find your blog interesting and inspiring and I want to thank you for your contribution. If you choose to accept the award, you’ll find the “instructions” linked here: http://spiritualmysticism.wordpress.com/2012/05/09/very-inspiring-blogger-award/

Yet another great post. I agree that the truth is the best thing. When you can be truthful with yourself, you can be truthful with others. Being truthful always gives me a sense of relief even if it’s for my own good. Whereas if I’m not truthful with myself, I get nervous and have anxiety just like you said. Thanks for your encouraging words. 🙂

Thanks TW. Again! I have such a struggle with being completely authentic because I have such a different viewpoint than most people, and I have no interest in debating. But I owe it to the Source to be absolutely upfront with my convictions. It’s a little scary coming out of the closet but it is the first step to becoming the Truth that is me.
