Are you living your life full of excitement, enthusiasm and energy and really making the most of every single moment your have?
Are you just putting in the hours and going through the motions in your life with a feeling of boredom and lack of enthusiasm for your life?
Many people, myself included can be caught in the loop of just going through the motions in our lives, coming to a place that this is just it and this is my lot in life and that we just need to get on with it. We can get caught in the trap of being in a rut and never really thinking outside the box that we could be doing much more with our lives, living more passionately and more fully.
Some of the reason of why we are not living our lives more passionately, is because of the beliefs we have taken on and started believing to be true as a result of our families, friends, education, work, our country and our society. Some of these beliefs may include “we need to do this” and “ we should do that” and that “ we have to do this”.
I can see in my own life, that these limiting beliefs have blocked my creative voice and my own sense of aliveness in myself. I am currently going through a process with The Artist Way, which is a 12 step/week guide to unblock and release my creativity. I am now on week 5 and I can see a change in myself and my creative expression. The Artist Way process is helping me to uncover and become aware of beliefs that I have which may not be serving me. I feel that I am moving in the right direction even though at times I feel unsure and doubtful of what the future beholds.
When we are connected to what we really want and we are moving in the direction of achieving and getting it, I believe we move into a place of enthusiasm, excitement and energy in our lives. We can feel it all over our body, that this is what we really want and we feel driven and motivated to go and get it. We believe without any doubt, that we can be this or achieve this.
A part of The Artist Way process has been to choose imaginary lives that you would like to live . My top 5 were, in no order of importance were; An actor, Singer, Talk show host, Motivational Speaker and a Writer. I can see that a part of me has regarded these lives as being foolish and not sensible and that I need to go and get a proper job. I would love to create the possibility of creating more parts of these lives in my life.
When we choose to live a life of really going for what we want, we receive the benefits of being more happy, energetic, enthusiastic and alive about our lives. We have more to give because we are giving to ourselves and following our hearts desire. We act as an inspiration to others because they see how we are being.
I have come up with a few thoughts in how we can connect and move towards what we want;
* Brainstorm ideas about things you would like to create more of in your life.
* Take one small step towards what you want in every day of your life – in one year you will have taken 365 steps. 🙂
* Create a collage of pictures of your career/idea or goal.
* Believe that it can happen – if others can do it, so can you.
* Talk to people who have done it and ask them how they did it.
* Ask yourself why you want this – the more reasons you have the better.
* Trust any inspired actions you may have and just act on them.
* Become aware of any negative beliefs that may not be serving you and ask yourself – “Is this belief true?” and “what is the evidence of it not being true?”
* Change your beliefs to more empowering ones by creating evidence of the new belief you want to create. Think of people of who are acting from the belief that you want.
* Visualise yourself in the place you would like to be.
We are only given one life and there are no second chances. It is up to everyone of us to find a way to live our lives in a passionate and enthusiastic way.
As always I would love to hear any feedback, comments or words of wisdom you may have.
Namaste.

This is a positive and passionate post….what you left out is once you achieve your goals, live in them. A lot of our unhappiness comes from believing we have to constantly be constant. We have to achieve then maintain what we achieve. True happiness comes from finding a life where we want for nothing!!!!

I will definitely visit the Artist Way website. I feel inspired by reading this post. Going through the motions has been the barrier that keeps me from reaching my dreams. One question though: doesn’t the activity of choosing imaginary lives tend to keep us from being realistic? Or does it simply serve as a guide towards realistic goals? It sounds more to me like the “miracle question” that Solution Focused Therapists use during counseling. Thanks for sharing this link. Namaste.

Hello, really pleased to have discovered ur lovely site and I enjoyed this post. Many different friends have said great things to me about The Artists Way and it sounds very liberating, good stuff for both individuals and the world. And I agree that many people are going through the motions, like the proverbial hamster on a wheel, living out someone else’s definition of success instead of stopping to discover their own values and vision. I help a lot of my clients unblock their potential using my simple ABC CDE formula which you may wanna check out – published 23 Dec on my blog: thankingthespoon.com
I look forward to reading more of your posts. Nam myoho renge kyo,

Thank you TW, I am on the same path and this morning I was thinking about what lays ahead and how i can see the fear I feel about the uncertain…the unknown is always a scary thing, isn’t….more I think of it more I am certain that scariest yet is to fall back to the past, and an unfulfilling life I know so well just because makes me feel comfortable. I look for strength from the Universe and try to silence the beliefs I’ve been thought that I got all I could get and trust the light inside. Thank you for your insightful post. Namaste.

Really great. I feel like I go through similar epiphanies in waves, where I believe I can and I trust and then I do amazing things for a while, and then, slowly, I contract, and have to go through all the steps again to believe and be open and be what I want. It’s almost like a constant reinvention of myself. This time around it’s been harder than before, but I feel myself awakening to the experience on a deeper level. I did the Artist’s Way almost 20 years ago – it was a great experience. Perhaps it’s time to do it again.
During the Artist’s Way time, some a little before and some a little after – I have been a singer, a performance artist, a writer, a painter, a printmaker, a yoga instructor, a hiker, a cyclist, a reiki master. I still am all those things, but I’ve been in contraction for a few years (and consequently taking the jobs that are “safe” and not having much fun).
It’s time to break out and have those experiences of being what I want to be on a more refined level – perhaps that is what my being is calling for now.
Thanks for the post!

Wow, great post! You inspired me to take the artists way off my shelf again after about 20 years. I relate to the comment just above mine. I’ve reinvented myself over and over again and now it seems harder than before for some reason that I don’t know or understand (and may never understand!!) I too have worn to many hats to mention here. I just finished the book called Dying to be Me, so the title of your post really grabbed me. It’s an incredible story about a woman being disconnected from her true wants and needs and how she is sure it caused a life threatening illness. She encourages us to be true to who we really are and have the courage to live in that truth. I think the artists way is a great workbook to help us discover who we really are and manifest it. I’ve noticed that I’ve changed as I’ve gotten older so its time to go back to the drawing board again!!
Thanks so much.

I think you got it all right till you laid down certin touch stones for testing the directions of action. The problem with touch stones is that with time these become the belief you referred. Thus we end up with new belief instead of old. It appears to me that the mind has ability to focus on issues from a level which is beyond the belief and from that level everything becomes transparant. Any way this perspective brings us more near to what we are.

So true that our beliefs can be very limiting. When I started exporing this topic, I read many books on the subject and they helped me to step outside my comfort zone and write my own book. One idea that was really inspiring and helpful was to “think from the end.” Wayne Dyer, author of more than 30 books, said he makes a book cover and looks at it every day before he even writes the book! I followed his example and it was very powerful. Great post!

I have found Cameron’s work to be quite helpful in opening my eyes to many of the misconceptions we have about art and artists. At the age of 56, it’s easy to feel as if I have already chosen my life’s path, but I realize all of us can grow into new interests and abilities from wherever we are, and sometimes we MUST, in order to survive. Thanks for your postive outlook!.

Enjoyed your post and also the comments. There are people who thrive on drama. I am not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but for me, contentment comes from the joy of living every day and having enthusiasm in whatever the day brings, be it problems or pleasures. Can’t think of chapter or verse, but I have read in the Bible, “This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” I believe it is possible to grow by just sitting in an easy chair and meditating. Thanks for indulging my in reading this comment.

Thanks – everything you said was true – what struck me was the bit about visualization – its quite an art and a science – and surprisingly one can achieve all that one visulaizes because the ‘masters’ say that the universe is most compassionate and ready to give you all, grant your every wish but sadly it doesn’t because it cant figure out what you really want – and that is so because neither do you! so the visualization helps you precise what you want after your have focussed your mind on what it is that you really want – make sense?
Take care.
